Abel Abraham 

Alongside his mentor, Abel screens adolescent patients for menstrual poverty, ensuring access to menstrual hygiene products to promote dignity and well-being. He also conducts quality improvement projects with the Advanced Care at Home team, addressing gaps for children with complex medical needs. In addition, Abel is addressing food insecurity for high school students, collaborating with Cristo Rey Orlando to launch a nutrition lab in its inaugural year.

Abel earned his Bachelor of Public Health degree at the University of Florida. He is currently attending University of Florida Medical School, with interests in pediatrics, infectious disease, and hematology. 

Alexandra Abrew

Alexandra works with her physician mentor to conduct the Zones of Regulation program that enhances children’s emotional literacy by teaching them to understand the variety of emotions they may experience. She also works alongside her second physician mentor investigating how the social drivers of health are affecting Eczema in pediatric patients in the Central Florida region. Her community partner is the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida working with teenagers on the Sources of Strength Program. 

Alexandra graduated with cum laude distinction from the University of Florida where she earned a Bachelor of Health Science and a minor in Public Health. She will be applying to Medical School next cycle with the goal of becoming a physician that is culturally competent and aims to reduce health disparities among her patients.

Yocelis works alongside her mentor in research that is actively creating a virtual reality game that involves childhood asthma. The project aims to help educate children on identifying their early warning signs to reduce asthma attacks. She is also active in a research project offering administrative and supportive services to the Mental & Behavioral Health Collaborative, which strives to elevate the mental and behavioral wellbeing of children by ensuring clinical excellence to promote prevention and improve access to care, all while advancing in the felid of education and research. 

Yocelis graduated from the University of Central Florida, earning her Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree. She is preparing to apply to medical school, moving toward her lifelong goal of becoming a physician.
