Get to Know Me

Chris Church has been with 91´óÉñ Children’s Health in Wilmington for the past 20 years. He currently works as the director of the Gait Analysis Laboratory. He focuses his practice on the treatment of children with cerebral palsy and similar developmental disabilities. His research interests include the use of gait analysis and activity monitoring to evaluate outcomes in children and adults with cerebral palsy. He is the past president of the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society. He has 4 children and 2 grandchildren. He happily serves as a 24-hour physical therapist for his wife who is a 17-year survivor of a brain tumor.

Research Activities

In addition to clinical care, the gait lab is involved in research to improve treatment for children here at 91´óÉñ and around the world. We focus on:

  • The study of outcomes of surgeries and determining the best candidates for those surgeries
  • The study of which factors lead to the fastest and most optimal recovery after surgery
  • The study of walking activity so we are not just focused on how your child walks at the hospital but what they do in the community
  • The study of long-term changes in walking including into adulthood, so we know that treatments are both effective now and in the future
