Betty Chu, MD, MBA, FACOG is a nationally respected physician executive with deep expertise in clinical quality, patient safety, health equity, and clinical operations. She serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Advocate Health, the nation鈥檚 third largest nonprofit health system, serving approximately six million patients across six states with more than 165,000 team members.

In her current role, Dr. Chu has led enterprise integration following the formation of Advocate Health following the merger of Atrium/Wake Forest and Aurora/Advocate Health in 2023. Her focus is creating a unified organization to ensure clinical excellence, high reliability, and zero harm.

Prior to joining Advocate Health, Dr. Chu was Enterprise Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Henry Ford Health, overseeing quality and safety, provider affairs, and surgical services. Earlier roles included Chief Quality Officer and Associate Chief Clinical Officer, where she led systemwide performance improvement, pandemic response efforts, and health equity initiatives focused on improving maternal and infant outcomes.

Her national recognition includes: The Joint Commission Physician Leadership Award in 2025; Modern Healthcare Innovators Award in 2025; Beckers Review Hospital and Health System Chief Medical Officers to Know 2026. She has also been recognized by the business community in Michigan for her leadership including the Michigan Women Forward - Women of Achievement and Courage Award 2021; Detroit Business Powered By Women 2020.

Dr. Chu is an active civic and community leader. She has been involved in health policy advocacy for almost 30 years. Most notably, Dr. Chu served as the president of her county and state medical societies and currently serves as the Chair for the American Medical Association Council on Medical Service. Dr Chu serves as a trustee of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, board member of the Detroit Zoological Society and a board member of the Zekelman Holocaust Center.

Dr. Chu earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan, completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beaumont Health, and received her MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
