A small island of magic and mystery, of pride, heritage; ancient history and tradition, a land where smiling faces surround you no matter where you go. Welcome to Sri Lanka ….. Welcome to paradise.
Set in the Turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is known as a number of names, from 'Ceylon', the 'Teardrop of the Indian Ocean', 'Resplendent Isle', and ’Island of Dharma' to the 'Pearl of the Ocean'. Ancient Moorish merchants called it the 'Isle of Delights' and 'The Land of Happy Surprises' and 'Serendib' by early Arab traders. Medieval explorer, Marco Polo called it the "finest island in the world" and Mark Twain described it as "beautiful and sumptuously tropical", with Mahatma Gandhi being inspired to say that "Sri Lanka's natural beauty was unsurpassed on the face of the earth". These are only a few of the sentiments that reveal the beauty, majesty and intense affection Sri Lanka has evoked in its visitors, and all combine to create one world that says it all: "Paradise"
